Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.

The win also means he has secured twenty-one victories at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent saved four early opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
